Dean Lewis
Epilogue World Tour
2024
"Above the stage hangs a giant, crumpled sheet of paper covered with scribbled words, the lights bouncing off it in a visually stunning feast."

The stage design for Dean Lewis's Epilogue Tour in November 2024 featured a striking visual centerpiece: a suspended sculpture resembling a crumpled paper mountain. This installation, crafted from layers of white and off-white materials, evoked the image of discarded handwritten lyrics, symbolizing the raw and unfiltered emotions present in Lewis's music.
Positioned above the stage, the paper mountain served both as a visual focal point and a thematic anchor, reinforcing the introspective nature of the Epilogue album. The lighting design, led by Ian Haslauer and directed by Bowen Moss, enhanced this effect by casting dynamic shadows and soft glows onto the sculpture, creating an atmosphere that mirrored the emotional depth of the performances.
Throughout the concert, the paper mountain subtly transformed under different lighting schemes, aligning with the mood of each song. This innovative stage element not only added a unique visual dimension to the tour but also deepened the audience's connection to the music, encapsulating the themes of reflection and emotional vulnerability that are central to Dean Lewis's work.

How we got there
Dean Lewis wanted to highlight his journal entries that had become quite popular on social media. He was also drawn to the beauty of nature in his song writing. Sooner combined these two thoughts to create a large, floating paper mountain above the stage using a high resolution capture of the artist's handwriting. Sew What used a combined of metal screen and printed fabric to create the crumpled look with a grid of pick up points along the back. The floating scenic piece took light beautifully.
Ian and Bowen worked together in rehearsals to craft the lighting to fit the emotions of Dean Lewis's music. The paper mountain took light beautifully transforming the stage with every changing scene.
The team also crafted an intimate "B" stage moment on which Dean could perform closer to his fans. It was lit with simple up lights and spots to create a static moment within the set list for Dean to connect more closely with the fans in the back of the room.

“The lighting fittingly frames the moment, grounding Lewis’s performance in his Australian roots and sparking a wave of nostalgia that flows through every note."
