Live From The Swamp 2025

2025

For Doechii’s Live From the Swamp fall 2025 tour, the lighting was conceived as an extension of her world-building — not just illumination, but atmosphere and narrative architecture to showcase a schoolroom aesthetic. The palette leaned into saturated blues, toxic greens, and visceral reds, creating a humid, nocturnal environment that felt alive and slightly dangerous. We used sharp transitions and aggressive cueing to mirror her rhythmic shifts, allowing the rig to snap from shadowy isolation to explosive, full-stage washes in a single beat.

A central scenic element, the oversized boombox, became part of the lighting language itself, providing a lit backdrop for Doechii’s performance. That interplay between scenic practicals and the overhead panel system helped unify the design. For more introspective moments, we carved the space down with negative space and sculptural sidelight, letting texture and silhouette drive the mood. For high-intensity tracks, the rig opened up into bold, fast-changing looks that felt immersive and uncontained. The goal was to create a living, breathing environment that supported the show’s swamp mythology while maintaining the raw immediacy of a hip-hop school performance.

“The lighting and screen visuals were curated perfectly to produce a different feeling and environment for each song”

“The lighting was cinematic and moody without being too colorful or over the top, keeping the focus on her performance.”

How we got there

Bobby and Sooner approached lighting as a primary scenic device, using it to fully realize the hip-hop classroom concept. A ceiling of panel lights was designed to define the space architecturally, creating the feeling of an illuminated “room” overhead rather than a traditional concert rig. Flanking the stage, vertical torms on both sides were key to sculpting choreographed moments — delivering sharp, theatrical hits and rhythmic accents that amplified the movement and added dimensionality. The third defining element of the rig was a series of large moving-light banks positioned upstage left and right, evoking the intensity of stadium field lights and bringing a bold, arena-scale energy that contrasted dynamically with the more intimate classroom framing.

“Its high, constant energy, thunderous shaking bass and bright lights are all familiar, but The Swamp is just as much a club as it is a rap concert...
