The Playground executed a design under an extremely fast turn around for Ice Spice’s performance on the season opener for NBC Saturday Night Live. She requested a modern approach with lighting and video content that submerged her and two dancers in an electrifying environment. The Playground collaborated with choreographer Tricia Miranda and her team to accomplish the production design and show direction in record time!
Ice performed on top of a video floor under a video ceiling, completely immersed in content created by Brittany Janea. Around the perimeter of the space were strips of lighting programmed by team member Bobby Grey. The overall look was a clean, modern aesthetic that created dynamic movement of light accenting Ice's performance.

How we got there
The team was contacted exactly a week before rehearsal and camera blocking for Saturday Night Live. It was important to choose products that could be quickly deployed out of rental stock to make the performance successful. The Playground created a warm palette of oranges, pinks, and golds for the songs ‘In Ha Mood’ and the debut of ‘Pretty Girl’ using the video content and lighting effects around the perimeter of the stage. Each song was bookended with the Ice Spice signature animated logo with stylized hair and eyelashes to help promote Ice’s brand.
